Boys' win put Fukien on top in streetball

In the men's open group, Wing Lun B retained their title when they defeated Fukien 9-7 in the final.

Wing Lun edged past Fire Services in the quarter-finals after winning a sudden death shoot-out with Lam Chun-wai scoring the decisive basket. Wing Lun regained their composure to beat Kin Chung 36-15 in the semis.

More than 800 spectators attended the second day of the two-day competition at the Sha Tsui Road Playground in Tsuen Wan.

The Fukien boys' 16-20 team proved too strong for their opposition.

The team, made up of the Hong Kong national youth squad members, Ng Wah-fung, Liang Kwok-sing, Lui Chor-wai and Chung Ming-tat, scored 39 points in total in one of their preliminary matches - an extraordinary result for a 10-minute game. Fukien breezed through to the final, beating Woo Hon Fai Prevocational School 19-11.

A well-trained Yuen Long Sports Association girls' 16-20 also amazed the crowd with their well-honed skills. The team beat Elite B 9-1 in the semi-final and then Jay Walkers 14-4 in the final.

The boys' under-16 title went to Basketball Youth, who beat Power Jam 13-5 in the final. One-Third, a team of Yuen Long secondary school students, overcame Fukien in the final of the girls' under-16 group.

The best teams on the Island, Kowloon and the New Territories will fight it out in the grand final on Sunday at Kowloon Park.

Semi-finalists in the men's and women's open, 16-20 and under-16, and finalists of wheelchair and family groups can take part.

The media cup and men's senior cup will be played.

Winners of the boys' and girls' 16-20 groups will be sponsored by adidas in the adidas Streetball World Championships in Milan.
